The organisers of the upcoming Eko International Cup have commenced a significant awareness and sensitisation initiative today, June 6, marking one month until the tournament kicks off.
SKI-Hi Entertainment, in partnership with the Lagos State Government, is overseeing the competition, which will feature eight teams. These include local clubs Remo Stars, Ikorodu United, Shooting Stars, and Enyimba of Aba, alongside four teams from other continents: FC Kallon from Sierra Leone, Accra Hearts of Oak from Ghana, SuperSports United FC from South Africa, and FC Dadje from the Republic of Benin.
Onome Obruthe, the Executive Director of Publicity and Strategy for the Local Organising Committee, highlighted the extensive groundwork that has been laid. “Not many people are aware of all the initiatives we have undertaken, including roadshows and fan sensitisation. One of our partners, MTN, has played a pivotal role in making these efforts possible,” he remarked.
Obruthe continued, “As we approach June 6, exactly one month before the competition, we are poised to unveil more awareness campaigns. Several exciting initiatives are in the pipeline, and we will disclose our plans as we progress.”
The pre-season football tournament is scheduled to take place from July 6 to 13 at Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, formerly known as Onikan Stadium, with two matches set to be played each day.
In line with their awareness campaign, ticket sales for the pre-season tournament will commence online today, June 6, precisely one month ahead of the kickoff.
In addition to telecommunication giants MTN, Bigi Drinks and the Lagos State Government are also key partners in this venture.
Joseph Otugbe of MTN expressed that their support is part of a continued commitment to promoting football in Nigeria. The Eko International Cup (EIC) is generating significant buzz in the football community, with fans eagerly anticipating the tournament.
