The Convener Initiative for a Better and Brighter Nigeria, led by IBBN Prophet Isa El-Buba, has spearheaded a multi-faith citizens’ coalition to condemn the rising violence across Nigeria, accusing political elites of prioritising party defections over the safety of citizens.

The renowned Christian cleric and civic advocate, while addressing a gathering of clergy, youths, and civic organisations in Jos, described attacks on communities as targeted and systematic, insisting they amount to genocide rather than mere “banditry” or “farmer-herder clashes.”

“The nation is bleeding, yet politicians are more interested in defections than in saving lives,” he said. “We are tired of speeches. We are tired of excuses. We are tired of misinformation. This government must confront reality and act now.”

The coalition presented urgent demands to President Bola Tinubu and the federal government, which include providing absolute security to vulnerable communities and calling for visible, preventive security measures, rapid-response units, and well-equipped personnel deployed to flashpoints to prevent further loss of life.

Other demands include identifying, arresting, and prosecuting perpetrators and sponsors, as well as rebuilding communities and supporting victims, while committing to justice, equality, and reform of the security sector.

The group urged reforms to ensure professionalism and neutrality in Nigeria’s security forces, insisting all citizens, regardless of faith or ethnicity, deserve equal protection.

He also appealed to international partners; the coalition sought security support, targeted sanctions on terror sponsors, humanitarian aid, and sustained diplomatic pressure to ensure government accountability.

El-Buba concluded: “We must rise with one voice. We will not be victims anymore. We will not be intimidated anymore. We will not be silenced anymore.”
