El-Rufai Absent As Kaduna ADC Holds Presidential, Guber Primaries

Members of the coalition African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State on Monday participated in the party’s presidential and governorship primary elections across the state.

Our correspondent, who monitored the exercise, reports that party members turned out in large numbers to vote for their preferred presidential, governorship and State House of Assembly candidates.

There were no reported cases of violence as of the time of filing this report.

However, former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who is regarded as a key leader of the party in the state, did not participate in the exercise following his detention by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over alleged corrupt practices bordering on financial misconduct.

The allegations have been consistently denied by the former governor.

Speaking with our correspondent on telephone over the conduct of the primaries, the ADC’s elected State Publicity Secretary, Darius Kurah, who is yet to be sworn in, said the exercise was peaceful across the state.

“I am in my village in Southern Kaduna and the ADC primaries went smoothly without any issue here. Our party members came out and voted for candidates of their choice.

“Across Kaduna State, I called different local government areas and they told me there was no problem and the voting went on without hitches. Hopefully, between this evening and tomorrow noon, the results collection will be completed and announced,” he said.
