Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, responded to an invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to explain how he handled state funds as governor on his birthday, February 16.
The chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), arrived at the EFCC Monday to answer questions over alleged corruption linked to his administration.
He arrived at the EFCC headquarters with hundreds of his supporters.
This comes as the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, in a birthday wish to the former Kaduna governor said amid the present political persecution and needless distractions, faced by El-Rufai, his record of service and clarity of thought and purpose remain undeniable.
According to his bio, El-Rufai was born on February 16 1960.
Upon arrival in Nigeria last week from Egypt, the former Kaduna State governor said he would be honouring an invitation by the EFCC on Monday by 10:am.
He said the anti-graft commission had invited him while he was out of the country but that his lawyers had written to the commission that he would be available on Monday.
The former governor has made a series of controversial statements lately, including claims of tapping the phone of the National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and questioning the alleged importation of 10 kilograms of thallium sulphate.
However in a birthday wish on X, Atiku said, “Happy Birthday to Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, @elrufai. A man of intellect, courage, and uncommon sagacity. Even amid the present political persecution and needless distractions, his record of service and clarity of thought and purpose remain undeniable. I wish him strength, peace, and Allah’s guidance in the years ahead.”
End.
