Elon Musk Loses Trillionaire Status After Losing Over $500bn In Stock Market Crash

Elon Musk has fallen below the trillionaire milestone following a steep sell-off in global technology stocks that erased more than $500 billion from his personal wealth within just one week.

The Tesla and SpaceX chief executive, who had recently become the first person in history to surpass a $1 trillion fortune after a surge in SpaceX-related valuation gains, has now seen his net worth decline sharply amid a wider downturn in tech equities.

According to Bloomberg estimates, Musk’s wealth currently stands at about $957 billion, down from above the $1 trillion mark earlier this month. The drop is being described by analysts as the largest individual wealth loss ever recorded.

SpaceX shares are reported to have fallen by around 30 per cent from recent highs, while Tesla also recorded significant losses as investors pulled back from technology stocks amid growing concerns over inflated valuations in the artificial intelligence sector.

“The wider tech market downturn affected several major companies, including Nvidia and Micron, as investors questioned whether the rapid growth and spending linked to AI can be sustained,” market analysts said.

Financial experts note that Musk’s fortune remains highly exposed to market volatility due to his heavy holdings in Tesla and SpaceX. As share prices fluctuate, his net worth rises or falls in tandem with company valuations.

The latest decline surpasses his previous record loss in 2022, when a slump in Tesla shares wiped an estimated $165 billion from his fortune.

Despite the setback, Musk remains the world’s richest individual, with major stakes in Tesla, SpaceX and other technology ventures.

The broader tech sell-off has also impacted other billionaires, including Oracle founder Larry Ellison, whose wealth reportedly declined following a drop in Oracle’s share price.
