The Etsu Nupe and chairman, Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, has described the death of Mr Jones Ajayi, a reporter with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Bida Station, as very devastating.
Ajayi died in the early hours of yesterday after a brief illness in Minna.
In a condolence message, the Etsu Nupe said the death of the veteran journalist was a great loss not only to his family or the NTA, but also to the entire Nupe Kingdom and Niger State.
Abubakar described the deceased as very humble, dedicated, diligent and committed to his duty.
“Words cannot express the rude shock and pain in losing such a compatriot in the struggle to make our society a better place,” he added.
„This death is a great loss that has robbed us of a consummate man whose patriotism and love for a better Nigeria was not in doubt,“ the royal father said.
He also commiserated with the Nigeria Television Authority, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Niger chapter, and prayed to God to grant the family of the deceased the fortitude to bear the loss.
