Nollywood actress Evan Okoro has publicly challenged claims linking her to a viral allegation that she is living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), urging her colleague Ekene Umenwa to clarify her role in the controversy.
The dispute followed reports that Okoro’s name appeared on a list allegedly discussed during a private conversation involving Umenwa and a UK-based Nigerian nurse. The list, which has circulated widely online, claims to mention actors said to be facing different health conditions. The authenticity of the claims has not been independently verified.
In a video shared on Instagram, Okoro expressed shock at seeing her name connected to the rumour. She questioned whether Umenwa made the statement herself or if others fabricated the allegation to create tension between them. The actress said she had initially defended Umenwa when the issue first surfaced and had encouraged people to wait for her colleague’s response.
Okoro described the allegation as deeply hurtful, noting that the rumour had emotionally affected her family. She stressed that spreading unverified health information about individuals can have serious consequences and warned that those responsible would be held accountable if the claims proved false.
