Dr. Obinna Simon, popularly known as MC Tagwaye, has resigned his membership from the Social Democratic Party (SDP), citing the party’s protracted internal crisis and uncertainty about its future direction.

In a statement announcing his decision posted on his verified Facebook handle on Sunday, MC Tagwaye, who was the SDP chairmanship candidate in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) during the 2026 FCT Area Council Elections, said his resignation takes immediate effect, noting that the move followed careful consideration of the ongoing challenges within the party.

“I write to formally tender my resignation as a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), with immediate effect,” he stated.

He explained that the decision was not made lightly but was necessitated by concerns over instability within the party. According to him, the lingering internal crisis has created “significant uncertainty regarding its direction and future,” making it difficult for him to continue his participation.

“This decision has not been made lightly. However, the lingering internal crisis within the party has created significant uncertainty regarding its direction and future. As a committed member who believes in stability, unity, and purposeful leadership, I find the current situation deeply concerning and no longer conducive for my continued participation,” he wrote.

The former SDP member further noted that stepping aside at this time aligned with his personal and political interests, given the prevailing circumstances within the party.

“In view of these developments, I believe it is in my best interest to step aside at this time,” MC Tegwaye said.

MC Tagwaye also expressed gratitude to party members and voters in AMAC for their support during his campaign.

“I remain deeply appreciative of the support extended to me by party members and the electorates of AMAC during my campaign in the last FCT Area Council Election,” he concluded.
