Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has been discharged from hospital after doctors confirmed he had developed an early-stage form of skin cancer.

Bolsonaro left Brasilia’s DF Star Hospital on Wednesday, a day after he was admitted with vomiting, dizziness, and low blood pressure.

In a statement, the hospital said the former President’s condition had stabilised but stated that he would continue to receive follow-up care.

Bolsonaro had also visited the facility on Sunday for the removal of skin lesions.

Subsequent tests revealed the presence of squamous cell carcinoma, an early type of skin cancer.

Bolsonaro’s physician, Claudio Birolini, told reporters that two lesions were identified and removed.

“The tests showed that two of the lesions were an early type of skin cancer. This has already been treated through removal, but regular monitoring is required to ensure no new lesions appear and that the removals were complete,” Birolini explained.

The health scare came amid Bolsonaro’s growing legal troubles.

Just last week, a Supreme Court panel sentenced him to 27 years and three months in prison for allegedly plotting a coup following his loss in the 2022 presidential election.

He has been under house arrest since August, accused of seeking to pressure Brazil’s courts with backing from US President Donald Trump.

Bolsonaro, who governed Brazil between 2019 and 2022 has faced a series of legal, political, and health challenges since leaving office.
