The Federal Government has launched a comprehensive framework to strengthen the maintenance and preservation of public assets across Nigeria.

The initiative, driven by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, through its Department of Federal Public Assets Maintenance (FPAM), introduces Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure uniform, efficient, and sustainable management of federal assets.

As part of the rollout, the Ministry has begun engagements with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to harmonise asset maintenance practices across the Federal Public Service. FPAM has also issued compliance forms and a maintenance manual to guide documentation, accountability, and adherence to established standards.

Speaking on the initiative, FPAM Director, Arc. Chioma Wogu-Ogbonna, said the framework aimed to institutionalise a proactive maintenance culture, prevent premature asset deterioration, and ensure value for money. She commended the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, for his leadership and support.

Dr. Belgore reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening asset preservation, stressing that effective maintenance is critical to sustainability, service delivery, and prudent management of public resources. He urged MDAs to align with FPAM’s regulatory mandate.

To enhance accessibility and awareness, FPAM also unveiled a smart card embedded with a QR code for instant access to its activities and mandate, alongside the rebranding of its operational bus for nationwide outreach.

The Ministry said the framework would promote accountability, extend the lifespan of government assets, and entrench a sustainable maintenance culture nationwide.
