The Federal Government has inaugurated the pioneer officers for the Bola Tinubu Polytechnic and principal officers of the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe, Lagos,
as part of its commitment to strengthening leadership and governance in Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.

The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, presented certificates to the newly appointed leaders at a ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday.

The Minister inaugurated Prof Onibon Nosim as the Rector of Bola Tinubu Polytechnic, Dr Angela Ajala as the new Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and Prof Oshikoya Kazeem Adeola as the new Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe, Lagos, among other leaders.

Speaking, Dr Alausa emphasised that the establishment of the Federal University of Science and Technology in Epe, Lagos State, and the Bola Tinubu Polytechnic in Abuja is more than a mere expansion of tertiary education.

“Every child in this country deserves access to the highest quality education, comparable to global standards. They have been carefully chosen based on their previous service and achievements across Nigeria’s educational institutions.

“To whom much is given, much is expected. You have been selected from millions to serve your country, and this is a recognition not just for you, but also for your families,” he said.

These institutions, he added, are strategic responses to national and global challenges such as food security, public health, climate change, renewable energy, and technological advancement.

“Their locations are equally strategic, situated in regions rich in human capital and economic potential. These institutions will serve as centres for innovation and platforms for nurturing the talent needed to propel Nigeria forward,” the Minister said.

He emphasised that the institutions are envisioned as centres of excellence in technological innovation, renewable energy, climate change adaptation, disaster risk management, and sustainable research, generating homegrown solutions that address local challenges while contributing to the global knowledge economy.

Dr Alausa also congratulated the newly appointed Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education, stressing that teacher education is a top priority for the administration.

“Without the best teachers, we cannot produce the best students. Your leadership is essential in safeguarding the values of our colleges of education and in creating new opportunities for aspiring educators across the country,” he said.

The Minister also extended congratulations to the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Science and Technology, the Rector of Bola Tinubu Polytechnic, and all principal officers, recognising their unique responsibility as pioneer leaders to shape the culture, identity, and trajectory of these institutions.

“Leadership matters most in any organisation. You now have the opportunity to build a strong institutional foundation that will guide these institutions for generations,” Dr Alausa said.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting these institutions, Dr Alausa assured that the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund and other development partners, will continue to improve infrastructure, enhance operational efficiency, and promote cutting-edge research.

The new principal officers, in their responses, pledged to work diligently towards contributing to the advancement of the country’s education system.
