The federal government yesterday in Abuja inaugurated 11 sub-committees for the successful hosting of the 21st National Sports Festival tagged “Delta 2021” slated for Delta State
The sub-committees will function under the Main Organising Committee (MOC) earlier inaugurated by the minister of youth and sports development, Mr Sunday Dare.
The permanent secretary, Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports and chairman of MOC, Ismaila Abubakar, while inaugurating the 11 sub- committees, described it as a milestone in efforts towards successful staging of the Nigerian Olympic Games from November 28 to December 8, 2022 in Delta State.
He said the members were carefully selected based on their experience, exposure and competence and urged to be prudent in the management of lean resources that will be at their disposal.
“Considering the enormous task involved in the organisation of the National Sports, the
MOC decided to constitute relevance sub-committees as required by the Festival general rules and regulations.
“The members of the sub-committees were carefully selected based on their relevant experiences, exposure, competence and commitment toward successful delivery of the assignments.
“Therefore, satisfied with the caliber of people that make up the committees, I have no doubt that the games will meet the expectation of Nigerians. At this juncture, I would like to call to your attention that the Ministry is facing the challenge of adequate funding which necessitates the need for us to be prudent in the management of lean resources at our disposal.
“By your diligence in handling the responsibilities of your sub-committees, you will be forever remembered for your contributions to the success of the 21st National Sports Festival,” Abubakar said.
The 11 sub-committees of the MOC are Accreditation, Anti-Doping, Finance, Games Service, Publicity, Medical, Torch of unity, Zonal elimination, Security, Feeding and Accommodation, Venue and Facilities, Opening and Closing Ceremony and Transportation.
Head of protocol in the Ministry, Abumere Ahidenov, pledged the commitment of the sub-committees to ensure a world class event.
