The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebration.

The announcement was made on behalf of the government by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in an official statement signed on Monday by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

According to the statement, the declaration affirms the federal government’s profound respect for the faith and spiritual heritage of millions of Nigerian Muslims who are joining the global Islamic community to observe the sacred occasion.

Extending the government’s warm felicitations to the Muslim faithful both in Nigeria and across the Diaspora, the Minister reminded citizens of the core essence of the festival, describing Eid-ul-Adha as an occasion of deep spiritual significance.

“The festival is grounded in the values of sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for one’s fellow man,” the statement read.

Amidst prevailing national challenges, the Federal Government further urged Nigerians to use the two-day holiday for prayer and sober reflection. The Minister called on citizens to seek divine guidance for the country as it continues its pursuit of peace, security, and prosperity for every citizen.

Concluding the announcement, the government emphasised that it is in the spirit of brotherhood, shared humanity, and national unity that it wishes all Muslims a peaceful, blessed, and joyous celebration.
