The Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy has launched “Ember to Remember 2026,” a coordinated 100-day national tourism season scheduled to run from September to December, aimed at unifying Nigeria’s fragmented event calendar into a single economic powerhouse.
Minister Hannatu Musa Musawa, announced the initiative at a press conference in Abuja stating the campaign would officially flag off on September 14, 2026, at Eko Hotel, Lagos, with a National Stakeholders Conference to unveil the official calendar.
“December has long been associated with Nigeria’s tourism and homecoming experience, but our culture, festivals, food, music, fashion, heritage, and hospitality exist all year round,” Musawa said.
“What has been missing is a deliberate structure that brings these experiences together, gives them visibility, and allows us to market them as one powerful national story. That is what Ember to Remember seeks to achieve.”
The season will integrate culture, tourism, entertainment, hospitality, transportation, commerce, and the creative economy across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with the goal of moving beyond isolated events to building a sustainable tourism economy.
MyCityApp CEO Ifeoma Mbonu announced that her platform would host the National Digital Events and Experiences Calendar.
“Every visitor who attends an event contributes to airlines, hotels, transport, restaurants, and local businesses,” she said.
“By connecting to these experiences, we can attract more visitors, support businesses, create jobs and strengthen Nigeria’s tourism economy.”
Other speakers at the event included NIHOTOUR Director-General Dr. Aare Abisoye Fagade, NTDA Director-General Dr. Olayiwola Awakan, Providus Bank’s Silely Lothan, and MTN Operations General Manager David Ogunsola.
The September 14 stakeholders conference will bring together government agencies, state tourism authorities, financial institutions, airlines, hospitality leaders, event producers, creatives, technology companies, and media to finalise the national calendar and operational framework.
