The federal government is set to bring world-class UK education to Nigeria with the planned opening of a Coventry University campus in Alaro City, Lagos, offering locally accessible degrees equivalent to those awarded in the United Kingdom.

The government plans to establish the university campus in Nigeria through a Transnational Education (TNE) partnership aimed at expanding access to globally recognised degrees.

The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Olatunji Alausa, who is currently in the United Kingdom accompanying President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, engaged with UK university leadership, key investors, and development partners to drive the initiative forward.

A press statement shared by the director of press and public relations, Folasade Boriowo, on Wednesday said the proposed campus will offer Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM), Business, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

“All degrees will be equivalent to those awarded in the United Kingdom. Admissions are expected to commence between the third and fourth quarters of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.
