FIFA has unveiled Lighter as the first single from the official album for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking the beginning of the tournament’s global musical rollout.
The track features American country-rap artist Jelly Roll and Mexican regional music star CarĂn LeĂ³n, in a cross-genre collaboration designed to reflect the cultural diversity of the upcoming competition.
Set for release on Friday, 20 March 2026, Lighter will be available across major streaming platforms, with pre-save options already open to fans worldwide.
FIFA confirmed the announcement via its official X account on Tuesday, accompanied by a stylised animated teaser blending visual elements from the three host nations — the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Produced by a leading Canadian hitmaker, whose identity has yet to be disclosed, the track combines Jelly Roll’s signature fusion of country storytelling, Southern rock and hip-hop with CarĂn LeĂ³n’s rich, guitar-driven regional Mexican sound.
The result is an uplifting anthem centred on resilience and unity, themes closely aligned with the spirit of the World Cup.
Beyond its musical appeal, the collaboration reflects the unique identity of the 2026 tournament, which will be co-hosted by three nations for the first time in the competition’s history. The inclusion of artists and production influences from across North America underscores FIFA’s intention to capture a shared cultural narrative.
Lighter offers an early glimpse into what is expected to be a landmark official album, following in the tradition of previous World Cup soundtracks that have featured globally recognised artists. The full project is anticipated to include a diverse line-up from across the Americas and beyond.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will run from 11 June to 19 July 2026, ushering in a new era for the tournament with an expanded 48-team format and matches staged across 16 cities in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
