Fire Guts Section Of Ooni Of Ife’s Palace

A section of the palace of the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi , Ojaga 11 was late Friday night gutted by fire.

Our correspondent gathered that though no life was lost nor injury sustained by anybody, in the fire incident that occurred at about 11:00 pm of the fateful day, properties worth millions of naira were reportedly lost.

A release by the Director, Media and Public Affairs, Ooni’s Palace.Otunba Moses Olafare who claimed that the fire incident was triggered by power surge noted that no cultural items were lost during the inferno.

“A building apartment within the courtyard of the Palace Of The Ooni Of Ife was at about 11:30pm yesterday engulfed in flames of a fire incident triggered by a power surge which exploded through electrical appliances in the affected apartment.

“The inferno did not spread beyond the affected building located at a section of the palace premises as it was swiftly put off through the combined efforts of the Government Fire Service, OAU Fire Service & Palace Emergency Control Unit” the statement stated.

Meanwhile, Governor Ademola Adeleke has sympathised with the Ooni of Ife, Oba Babatunde Enitan Ogunwusi in a statement by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, on Saturday.

The Governor described the incident as unfortunate and prayed that God will continue to protect the monarch and his family.
