Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Friday, commissioned the newly built 100-bed capacity Mother and Child Specialist Hospital in Gombe State, aimed at boosting the healthcare delivery.

The ultra-modern facility, named after the First Lady, was established through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and was designed to expand access to quality healthcare and reduce maternal and infant mortality rates in the state.

Speaking at the event, Mrs Tinubu described the hospital as an open door to life, hope and a brighter future for women and children of Gombe State and beyond, noting that maternal and child health remain central to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises giving every Nigerian child a healthy start in life.

She added that, “I believe that this facility will provide quality health services, reduce maternal and infant mortality and bring relief to countless families, while expressing gratitude to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, his wife Hajiya Asma’u, and the people of Gombe for naming the hospital after her.”

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, said the project reflects Nigeria’s commitment to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3, which focuses on good health and well-being.
