Popular content creator, Abiri Tobi Folagade, widely known as Folagade Banks, joined Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to celebrate the United States’ 248th Independence anniversary at the U.S. Consulate in Lagos, Walter Carrington Crescent, on Thursday, July 4, 2024.

The event, organized by the U.S. Consulate General in collaboration with the Lagos State Government, brought together diplomats, business leaders, entertainers, and top government officials in a vibrant celebration of freedom, friendship, and cultural diversity.

Folagade Banks, who attended as one of the special guests from the creative industry, described the experience as “an honor and privilege to celebrate liberty and partnership alongside visionary leaders and international allies.”

Speaking after the ceremony, Banks expressed his admiration for the strong diplomatic and cultural ties between Nigeria and the United States. “Being here today reminds me of how creativity and collaboration can unite nations,” he said. “This celebration isn’t just about America’s freedom, it’s about shared values that inspire progress and hope globally.”

He commended both the U.S. Consulate and the Lagos State Government for their ongoing initiatives that empower young creatives and foster innovation. “The U.S. has always been a model for creative excellence,” he added. “As Nigerian creators, we can learn from that drive and keep telling stories that connect people across continents.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his remarks, congratulated the United States on its 248 years of independence, describing the milestone as a testament to unity, resilience, and democratic strength. Governor Adeleke echoed his words, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect and cooperation between both nations in areas such as education, technology, and culture.

Banks, who is known for blending humor with social commentary, said the event deepened his appreciation for cultural diplomacy. “Comedy, art, and storytelling can build bridges where politics sometimes can’t,” he said. “They remind us that we are more alike than different.”

The celebration featured live musical performances, dance presentations, and a colorful display of both Nigerian and American cultures. Guests were treated to a fusion of cuisines and an evening of fireworks that lit up the skies above Walter Carrington Crescent.

Expressing gratitude for the invitation, Banks described the celebration as “a powerful symbol of friendship and shared humanity.” He added, “Freedom means the ability to express, to create, and to inspire — values both our nations hold dear.”

As the evening came to a close, Folagade Banks reflected on the significance of the occasion. “Celebrating America’s Independence in Lagos reminds us that unity and creativity know no borders,” he said. “It’s proof that through partnership and purpose, we can continue to build a world of connection and understanding.”
