The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially confirmed that former Arsenal goalkeeper, Arthur Okonkwo, is now eligible to represent the Nigeria’s Super Eagles. The 24-year-old’s nationality switch has been approved, paving the way for him to potentially feature for the West African nation.

Born in the United Kingdom to Nigerian parents, Okonkwo previously represented England at various youth levels, including U-15, U-16, U-17, and U-18. However, he has now expressed his desire to play for Nigeria at senior international level.

Ademola Olajire, the Nigeria Football Federation’s director of communications, expressed enthusiasm about the development, stating to ESPN: “The NFF is always excited to have another good player committing to Nigeria and providing an option in a particular position.”

Okonkwo will now face stiff competition for the Super Eagles’ number one shirt, vying with current first-choice Stanley Nwabali, as well as Maduka Okoye, Amas Obasogie, Francis Uzoho, and Ebenezer Harcourt. His inclusion adds significant depth to Nigeria’s goalkeeping options.
