He was honoured for his achievements in bringing sanity to the Nigerian aviation industry as the director general of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and as a personality committed to meaningful public change.

He was presented with the honour on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Lagos, during the 2025 Good Governance Summit with the theme: ‘Promoting Business Investment and Food Security as a Pathway To Good Governance,’ held by the university.

Presenting him with the honour, Prof. Peter Ekong, on behalf of the Board of Regents and Education, EAU – African Regional Operations of the university, said that Nuhu and four others were recognised with the doctorate degrees following their great achievements and considering their wonderful performance as international business practitioners, motivators and human resource experts.

The board congratulated the honorees and challenged them to continue to keep the flag flying in their different endeavours.

“Once again, the Senate and University Congregation congratulate you for this laudable achievement,” the board said.

Also, a representative of the European American University, Prof. John Odeh, said that the recipients of the honorary doctorate degrees had proven to the university that they were prominent leaders in their various fields and persons of integrity who had demonstrated superior expertise and commitment.

He specifically said that Nuhu was deserving of the highest acclaim that the EAU could bestow on him as an individual.

“Capt. Musa Shuaibu Nuhu is being honoured with the Honorary Doctorate Degree in Public Policy and Administration in recognition of his outstanding leadership roles in Africa as one of the renowned aviation gurus who holds a strategic position in the global industry.

“We are proud to acknowledge your new status and title of doctor. We wish you much-continued success in your future endeavours,” he added.

In his remark, Nuhu expressed delight with the European-American University for the recognition of his contributions to the aviation industry and leadership in Africa.

He pointed out that his recognition was a testament to the values he had upheld over the years and pledged to continue to serve, learn and contribute his quota to the advancement of not just the aviation sector, but all sectors that promote global progress.

Besides, he stated that the theme for the summit addresses two critical challenges of our time – business investment and food security.

He expressed that the issues were not just economic matters, but also fundamental to the survival, stability and development of societies across the globe.

He added: “Good governance, as we all know, requires accountability, transparency, and a commitment to creating opportunities for all. It is only through such governance that we can build an environment conducive to attracting investment, empowering farmers, and driving innovation in agricultural practices.

“As someone who has spent much of my career navigating the complexities of global aviation, I have come to understand the critical role that strategic leadership plays in building strong systems. Whether in aviation or agriculture, leadership must prioritise inclusivity, sustainability, and resilience. These principles are at the heart of achieving the goals outlined in today’s summit.”

Other honorees were Dr. Charles Ezeagwu, Business Admin & Corporate Governance; Dr. Ifeanyi Nwosu, Business Administration; Dr. Kingsley Ebere-Umeojiaka, Business Administration; and Dr. Ejike Okerekeamara, Business Administration.
