Leaders of the Eastern Bar Forum have condemned the spate of insecurity, extrajudicial killings and inflation in Nigeria and urged the federal government to intensify efforts against them.

The governor of the forum, Damian Nosike, spoke at the group’s three-day quarterly meeting in Umuahia, the Abia State capital. He expressed worry over the challenges.

Nosike also urged the government to address infrastructure deficiency in the South East and South-South, which make up the region, to end their further deterioration.

He called for the reconstitution of the Imo State Judicial Service Commission and thanked Abia State governor, Alex Otti and the state government for the success of the meeting.

At the opening of the meeting, Otti attributed the decision of many organisations and investors to hold their national meetings in the state to the state’s prevailing peace and security.

Represented by the attorney-general and commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna, the governor said he is determined to deliver democracy dividends to the state.

He lauded the state’s chief judge, Lillian Abai, and the commissioner for justice for their support and wished the forum successful celebrations.

Abai said a strong Bar and Judiciary are central to the preservation of the rule of law, noting that the forum has remained a formidable force for progress since its inception.
