The Meireer Education Foundation has equipped students in Abuja with digital tools at an essay competition aimed at promoting academic excellence and innovation.

The competition was organised to mark the 2026 International Day of Education.

It engaged both junior and senior secondary school students from across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), encouraging critical thinking on the role of education in society.

The competition was coordinated by Esther Akhigbe alongside the chief operating officer, Vivian Ovie-Whiskey, whose leadership ensured smooth execution from planning to completion.

In the senior secondary category, Inioluwa Jesse Omotosho of Kings Comprehensive School emerged as the overall winner and received a laptop.

Ifeanyi Esther of ADSS Mogadishu Cantonment secured second place and was awarded a tablet, while Chidozie-Okeke Jessica Chioma, also of ADSS Mogadishu Cantonment, placed third, receiving a reusable digital notebook and pen.

In the Junior Secondary category, Favour Chima of Deeper Real Vision Academy took first place and received a tablet.

Idris Barakat Alfa of JSS Gbagalape came second, winning a mini sticker printer, while twin brothers Samuel and Stephen Ogboji of Stella Maris College shared third place after independently submitting essays of equal merit.

Speaking, Ms Ovie-Whiskey commended the students for their creativity and discipline, emphasising that the competition was designed not only to reward academic excellence but also to foster critical thinking and social awareness among young learners.
