The director of programming, the Well Being Foundation Africa (WBFA),

Mr Williams Awotunde, gave the charge while inducting 42 students as ambassadors of its “Hygiene Quest” programme.

He said by inducting the students into Hygiene Quest Club, they were nurturing a culture of hygiene and health that would touch lives and safeguard futures.

Awotunde, represented by WBFA national programmes manager, Mr Kehinde Akinsola, charged the students to embrace the opportunity with passion to build a future where every school is a model of hygiene excellence and every ambassador is a beacon of hope and health.

The director said the foundation and its partner, Reckitt and Benckiser group, producers of Dettol, designed the project to create lasting behavioural change and not just to end as a workshop.

Awotunde said the induction marked the beginning of a journey where each of the ambassador would be torch-bearers of change in their schools and communities.

He said as a sustainability measure, the organisation was building a network of Hygiene Quest Clubs in schools to be led by the inducted ambassadors

At the event, the students were taught how to wash their hands thoroughly to avoid the spread of germs.

The commissioner for education and human capital development, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe, said the initiative was commendable as it would improve the overall well-being of students and reduce absenteeism in schools.

Olohungbebe represented by a deputy director, Mr Yisa Joshua urged the students to share lessons learnt with their friends and colleagues.

He said going by the statistics of students already inducted in different local governments, WBFA and Dettol have done a great job and the impact would be felt across all schools in the state.
