President of the Magdala Unity Foundation, Victoria Ihesiulor, has called for concerted efforts in eliminating Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the country.

Ihesiulor, who made the call at a one-day sensitisation programme on the elimination of gender- based violence in communities, held in Karon Majigi community, Abuja, noted that GBV is a pervasive form of injustice.

She said, “GBV strikes at the very core of our humanity, it shatters families, fractures communities, and leaves in its wake a trail of suffering and despair.

“This is a problem that requires the collective effort of every member of our communities. For too long, the burden of addressing this issue has fallen disproportionately on the shoulders of women and girls.

But let us be clear that this is not just the women’s issue, it is a human rights issue, and it demands a concerted response from all of us.

“We must challenge the notion that violence is an inevitable part of life. We must reject the false dichotomy that pits one gender against another, for in truth, we are all in this together. We must sow the seeds of love, compassion, and understanding in our communities, for it is only through acts of kindness and empathy that we can hope to create a world free from violence and oppression,” she said.

Also at the event, the district head of Karon Majigi, Yunusa Abdullahi, represented by the Onoba of Ebira in the community, Musa Idemia, commended the foundation for choosing the community for the programme.

He said, “The programme will enlighten housewives and children on the mistakes they have been making in marital and societal relationships and how to correct them. This is a welcome development. We must commend the foundation for taking their time to organise the programme in our community.
