Five officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have been killed after being knocked down by reckless drivers while on official duties.

The five personnel lost their lives in this month of September at various duty posts across the country.

Consequently, the corps marshal of FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, has directed that all motorists responsible for these tragic incidents be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law in order to serve as a deterrence against future occurrences.

FRSC spokesperson, Olusegun Ogungbemide, in a statement on Tuesday, said incidents happened across Ekiti Sector Command on September 6, 2025; Ogun Sector Command on September 8, 2025; Taraba Sector Command on September 15, 2025; Jos By-Pass Unit Command, September 19, 2025, and Obollo Afor Unit Command, September 24, 2025.

He explained that “their deaths are not mere statistics, they represent human lives dedicated fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, and breadwinners, cut short in the line of duty while safeguarding Nigerian roads.”

He further said: “gravely disturbed, the corps marshal noted with great concern the increasing hazards faced by FRSC operatives who, beyond being exposed to speeding vehicles, now also contend with kidnapping, violent attacks, and targeted assaults.”

He stressed that the FRSC will no longer tolerate acts of recklessness that endanger its staff, warning that offenders will be made to face the full weight of the law.

He called on personnel across formations nationwide to exercise more level of alertness and ensure their safety is highly prioritised, noting that they needed to be safe and alive to save others.

In line with this, the FRSC is intensifying engagements with relevant authorities on the protection of its personnel and installations. This measure, he emphasised, is not intended for aggression but as a safeguard to deter assaults and ensure that officers can perform their duties without fear of attack.
