FRSC, Glovo Launch New Road Safety Feature

Glovo has launched a new road safety feature on its riders’ app in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) as part of efforts to strengthen rider protection and improve road safety standards across Nigeria’s growing e-commerce and mobility sector.

The feature was unveiled in Lagos on March 2, 2026, alongside a road safety training session for riders. The training is scheduled to hold in Abuja on Friday. The initiative introduces data-driven preventive measures aimed at promoting safer riding behaviour and reducing road-related risks.

Speaking at the launch, interim general manager of Glovo Nigeria, Reni Onafeko, said the development underscores the company’s long-term commitment to safety, innovation and responsible growth in Nigeria.

She explained that the feature provides riders with real-time data about their riding behaviour, enabling them to make safer decisions on the road. According to her, the tool is voluntary and riders can opt in to use it as part of efforts to improve their personal safety.

Onafeko said the initiative combines technology with structured training programmes to reinforce a culture of prevention rather than reaction.

She added that the company is working closely with regulators to ensure safer roads for riders and the general public.

Also speaking at the event, Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation Education and Innovation, Oluwatobi Idowu, described the training as a commendable initiative. He urged riders to take advantage of the opportunity to familiarise themselves with road safety rules and best practices.

Representing the Lagos State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Corps Commander Kehinde G. Hamzat, the Assistant Corps Commander, Lagos Sector Command, Philip Ogah, commended Glovo Nigeria for organising a refresher course for its riders.

Ogah said continuous learning is essential for road users, particularly commercial riders, adding that structured training and interactive safety tools can help improve awareness and compliance with traffic regulations.

He noted that technological platforms have a responsibility to ensure that their riders are properly trained and equipped to operate safely on Nigerian roads.

Head of Operations at Glovo Nigeria, Oluwaseun Okugboye-Bello, said the safety feature has been integrated into the Glovo app as an additional layer of protection for riders, commuters and pedestrians.

According to him, the feature goes beyond technology deployment by incorporating continuous education content and structured safety sessions within the rider app to promote responsible riding behaviour.

At the end of the training session in Lagos, certificates were presented to 70 participants. The event was attended by senior officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps.
