Rivers State governor, Simnalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, have been served  with notices of allegations of misconduct  by the state lawmakers.

, This was disclosed yesterday by  the chairman of the House Committee on Information, Petitions, and Complaints, Hon. Enemi Alabo George, who insisted that the impeachment process was on course.

George said nothing would stop the ongoing process and stated that the governor and his deputy had already been served.

Meanwhile, two members of the Assembly, Hon. Silvanus Nwankwo and Hon. Peter Abbey, have withdrawn from the impeachment proceedings against Fubara and Odu.

Nwankwo, who is also the Minority Leader of the House, represents Omuma State Constituency, while Abbey represents Degema State Constituency.

Addressing journalists in Port Harcourt yesterday, the two lawmakers appealed to other members of the House to reconsider their position on the matter and pursue peaceful dialogue.

Nwankwo said: “Gentlemen, you are all aware that the Rivers State House of Assembly issued a notice of impeachment on the governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara and the deputy governor of Rivers State.

“But, we have called this press conference to appeal to our fellow colleagues to tamper justice with mercy and see how we can solve this matter apart from the impeachment proceedings. That is why we are here to appeal to the conscience of our colleagues.

“Having listened to so many pleas, calls from our elders and leaders both in and outside the state, begging for leniency, we are begging and calling on our colleagues to reconsider our stand and see how this matter can be resolved amicably, even though the governor and the deputy governor have infringed on the Constitution.”

Additionally, Abbey noted that even though the governor had infringed on certain aspects of the Constitution, there is a need to pursue an amicable resolution to this impasse.

He said, “As the minority leader said, the governor has infringed on parts of the Constitution, but we are human beings. We, as members of the 10th Assembly, want to plead with our colleagues to reconsider.”
