The Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has urged religious leaders in the country to imbibe religious tolerance and moderation in whatever they do as a people.

Gani Adams stated this at the annual Christmas Carol, organised by the Office of the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, in Lagos.

The Oodua leader who advanced the cause of religious tolerance among the religious leaders in the country, said Jesus Christ is the symbol of love who was born over 2000 years ago.

He said, “As the leader of OPC, we have been using the annual Christmas Carol to demonstrate our deep respect for the Christian religion, as we have never waived our belief in the holy spirit of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is of interest to note that we also celebrate with the Muslims by organising Ramadan lectures and sharing the important moments with them, as we never denigrate the religion of our forefathers and that of our ancestors.

“As we are celebrating the birth of his only begotten son, Jesus Christ, I desire that we seek religious tolerance, peace, and unity among the religious leaders in the country.”

The Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland stated that religion is a thing of the mind, adding that there is an urgent need for all our religious leaders to be moderate in their beliefs as God is very generous on the issue of religion.

“From my background, I was born a Muslim, but I grew up with my mother, who was a Christian. Despite the disparities in religious beliefs, my father and my mother lived peacefully as husband and wife, and they trained us well in the way of the Lord.’’
