The duo former Golden Eaglets handlers Manu Garba and Nduka Ugbade as well as former Kwara United coaches Abdullahi Biffo have emerged as strong contestants for the U17 national team coaching job.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) declared the position vacant last week and invited applications from interested coaches.

Ugbade is looking to get the job once again after failing to get the Golden Eaglets past the quarter-final stage of the 2023 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations in Algeria.

Manu Garba on his part, seeking to coach the team again guided the team to win the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup and Nigeria fourth title in the United Arab Emirates.  He also assisted late Yemi Tella when the team won the 2007 edition of FIFA U17 World Cup in South Korea.

Biffo, who is one of the most experienced local coaches in Nigeria, has managed several Nigeria Premier Football League sides including Abia Warriors, Kwara United and Niger Tornadoes in the past.
