Gombe State Commissioner for Education, Aishatu Maigari, has stated that the state has recorded remarkable achievements in getting girls back to school with over 50,000 girls re-enrolled in the education system.

Many out-of-school girls in the state have often resorted to working on farms for wages by farmers who hire their services.

But the commissioner in an interview with our correspondent said they have recorded tremendous success in recent times by returning 100,000 children to classes with girls representing over 50 per cent of the figure.

She attributed the success to the state’s targeted efforts to encourage girl-child education.

“The results of the September enrolment drive are out. We have mopped up over 100,000 students back to school and more than 50 percent of them are girls. So, it shows that girls are now getting more involved in coming to school,” she said.

To sustain this momentum, the commissioner added that the state is also working to increase the number of female school administrators.
