The Gombe State Athletics Association has issued a public disclaimer regarding the fraudulent activities of certain individuals falsely claiming to represent the organisation.
The announcement comes after reports have surfaced of three individuals—Kabiru Lawan, Isaac Linga, and Malum Babirju—who have been posing as officials of the association, collecting items and benefits under the guise of authorised representation.
In an official statement signed by the chairman of Gombe Athletics Association, Ahmed Shuaibu Gara Gombe and made available to journalists, clarified that these individuals are not affiliated with the organisation in any capacity. The association therefore urged the public to be vigilant, advising individuals to refrain from engaging in any dealings with Lawan, Linga, Babirju, or any other individuals attempting to impersonate officials of the Gombe State Athletics Association.
The association has also cautioned parents and guardians to ensure that their children are not entrusted to unauthorised persons for competitions not sanctioned by the body. The safety and legitimacy of athletic events continue to be a priority, and the association emphasises the importance of participating only in recognised competitions.
In response to this impersonation issue, the Association said it has reported the matter to relevant security agencies and investigations are currently underway to identify the individuals involved and hold them accountable for their actions. The association has also notified the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) regarding the situation.
The Gombe State Athletics Association reaffirms its commitment to transparency and accountability within the realm of athletics in Gombe State. They urge the public to always verify any requests or representatives that claim to be associated with the organisation, ensuring that all interactions are legitimate and sanctioned.
