Gombe State has once again taken the spotlight on the national stage, ranking among Nigeria’s fastest-growing states in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for 2024, according to fresh data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and the Joint Tax Board (JTB).

The latest report shows that Gombe’s IGR surged from 15.17 billion Naira in 2023 to 20.72 billion Naira in 2024, representing an impressive 36.58% growth.

This performance further cements the state’s reputation as a model of fiscal innovation, prudent financial management, and far-reaching economic reforms.

This new milestone comes on the heels of Gombe’s recent national recognition as the 7th best-performing state in Nigeria in the 2025 PCL State Performance Index (pSPI), where it claimed 1st place in Ease-of-Doing Business and ranked highly in road quality, public hospital service delivery, security, environmental cleanliness, and healthcare affordability.

Furthermore, the mid-year state’s IGR performance for 2025, by the Gombe State Internal Revenue Service (GIRS) in July, revealed that the state not only met but exceeded its revenue targets for the first two quarters.

Gombe generated 14.6 billion Naira in six months, surpassing its target with a 13.6% surplus – a clear demonstration of consistency in growth and efficiency in tax administration.

GIRS Executive Chairman, Aisha Adamu, attributed this sustained performance to the deliberate and strategic reforms of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s administration since 2019.
She noted the digital tax innovations that earned Gombe 4th place in Nigeria’s Digital Tax Administration Index, published by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum in partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as another milestone.

“These results are yet another proof that Gombe’s transformation is no accident, but the outcome of a well-crafted economic roadmap anchored on transparency, accountability, and the prosperity of our people,” Aisha Adamu remarked.

Under Governor Yahaya’s leadership, Gombe has attracted both national and international attention for its progressive policies, investor-friendly environment, and commitment to inclusive development.

The Governor’s blend of visionary leadership and hands-on governance has placed the state firmly on a trajectory toward becoming one of Nigeria’s most compelling success stories in the coming decade; an ambition he insists is attainable through sustained reforms, infrastructure expansion, and strengthening of institutions.
