Gov Kefas Presents N650bn 2026 Budget To Taraba Assembly

Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has presented the 2026 appropriation bill of over N650billion to the State House of Assembly for consideration and approval.

The governor, who presented the budget to the House on Wednesday in Jalingo, said the budget is a demonstration of the collective aspirations of the people.

The 2026 budget tagged, “Development We Can See” focuses on physical development, youth development and improved energy and electrification.

Governor Kefas said, the budget aligned with his administration’s policy direction of middle term expenditure framework, state development vision and the reality facing the people.

Dr. Kefas said, out of the total budget size, capital expenditure takes N457, 741, 600, 1000, 414, representing 70.36% while the recurrent expenditure is N192, 890, 98000, 586, representing 29.64%.

He listed his administration’s sectorial priorities from the total budget size to include road and transport 19.84%, Education and Skill development 15.98%, healthcare 6.19%, agriculture and food security 4.83%, water sanitation 3.19%, security, emergencies and protection 2.96%.

He also said, the budget will focus on energy and electrification, aimed at improving solar mini grid, hybrid rural electrification, street lighting, for security, power schools, hospitals, markets and micro processing areas across the state.

The governor, therefore projected in the budget proposal a revenue balance of N2.14 billion, internally generated revenue N29.79 billion, federation account allocation committee, statutory allocation and VAT, N376.16 billion, aids and grants N36.32 billion, capital development fund N206.24 billion.

According to the governor, “this is a budget of prove and impact, where every kobo must become a road that connects the communities, a school that shape the future, a hospital that saves lives, water that flows, energy that power homes and businesses and youths who are empowered, productive and morally sound.”

He, then pledged to deepen digital revenue systems by blocking leakages and expanding revenue strength in agriculture, mining, property, business and tourism.

Earlier, the speaker Taraba State House of Assembly, John Kizito Bonzena said, the political exigency has transformed the tenth Assembly of the state to a single party state legislature.

The speaker who was impressed with the development stride of Dr. Kefas, said the development would strengthen political unity in the state, enhance partnership, collaboration and synergy which will accelerate socio economic and infrastructural development in the state.

He further appreciated the governor for his ingenuity, political sagacity and foresight for giving the people effective, accountable, transparent and purposeful leadership.

Bonzena, thanked the governor for creating enabling environment for members, through formal and informal channels, and assured the governor of accelerated legislative action to ensure a speedy passage of the bill before the end of December 2025.
