The governor of Anambra State has been applauded for saving the youths from decadence occasioned by get-rich-quick syndrome.
The commendation was given by Amb. Johnny Metchie, the President General (PG) of Umueri community in the State.
The PG, who is also the Traditional Prime Minister of Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU), wondered what level the societal decay in Anambra would have degenerated to if Governor Soludo did not intervene when he did.
The community leader was reacting to the case of drug trafficking involving 23 Anambra indigenes, who had already been convicted and are on death row in Indonesia.
The PG stressed that Governor Soludo’s mandate needed to be renewed for another four year-term to enable him to consolidate on the current reforms.
As the governor’s 2025 re-election campaign gains momentum, Amb. Metchie averred that Soludo has demonstrated both capacity and competence in reformation and physical development of the State for better positioning of Anambra.
“The governor’s determination to protect the moral and social fabric of Anambra State could best be described as overwhelming”, said the PG, who further asserted that “those destroying our society did not see the cleansing waves and sunami of Governor Soludo coming.”
Recall that recently, Governor Soludo, addressing the issue, attributed the problem to the activities of fake native doctors in the State, whom his government has outlawed.
Speaking recently, the Anambra State governor had raised alarm over the rising number of young indigenes of the State falling victims of drug trafficking scams.
The governor heaped the blame on deceptive native doctors, who mislead the youths with false promises of supernatural protection.
Speaking last Wednesday while addressing latest converts, who newly defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the State, Governor Soludo had revealed that 23 Anambra indigenes were on death row in Indonesia for drug-related offences.
According to the governor, the culprits were manipulated by self-proclaimed native doctors who sold them the dangerous belief that charms could render airport security systems ineffective.
“These native doctors deceive our youths, telling them they can use charms to blind airport scanners,” Soludo said.
“Young men believe them, and that’s how we have so many of our brothers now rotting in jails abroad,” said the governor.
Speaking further, he cited the case of one native doctor who, despite claims of mystical powers, has a son working as a waiter in Nnewi.
“If it was that easy, why hasn’t he used his powers to make his own son a millionaire?” Soludo questioned.
The governor condemned the surge in get rich quick approach to life and fetish practices, particularly the rise of “Oke Ite” (money ritual) peddlers who promote the illusion of instant wealth without hard work.
He warned that anyone caught making false spiritual claims or promoting illicit wealth schemes would be arrested.
“One of those arrested even confessed to being just a content creator. But he has used his platform to poison the minds of our youth,” Soludo added.
While reiterating his administration’s respect for traditional beliefs, Soludo drew a clear line between genuine traditional worship and fraudulent practices.
“Traditionalists of old were among the most upright. They believed the gods would punish wrongdoing.
“But these new criminal elements hiding under spirituality are simply fraudsters,” stated the Governor, who also stressed that his administration is intensifying its crackdown on those promoting destructive beliefs.
He, therefore, urged young people to embrace dignity in labour and shun shortcuts to wealth that ultimately destroy lives and families.
