LEADERSHIP Awardee and governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has dedicated his ‘Governor of the Year’ Award to vulnerable children in rural communities, emphasising his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and accessible education.
The award was presented at the 17th edition of the LEADERSHIP Conference and Awards, which held on Tuesday at the Old Banquet Hall, State House, Abuja.
In his acceptance speech, Governor Yusuf highlighted the importance of the recognition, noting that it would serve as a motivation for public office-holders to deepen democratic values and prioritise the welfare of citizens.
He specifically pointed to the need for free and quality education, improved access to learning materials, and increased school enrollment, particularly in underserved areas of his Kano State.
“The award will push us to do more, to ensure democracy, to ensure free education, to ensure that our students are enrolled in school, to ensure that academic materials are provided free of charge,” the governor stated.
He further reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to bridge the educational gap between urban and rural communities, promising continued investment in grassroots development.
Organised by the LEADERSHIP Newspapers Group, the annual conference and awards ceremony honours individuals and institutions making impactful contributions across sectors such as governance, business, entertainment, and civil society.
This year’s event brought together dignitaries, policymakers, and achievers from across the country, all gathered to celebrate excellence in service and innovation.
