Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, has enjoined the people of the state to cherish and preserve their culture and tradition.

He further charged them to draw inspiration from their culture, embrace their roots and strengthen the bond of unity for a greater Bauchi State.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to promoting cultural activities such as the Bala Bara Ma Jalam Cultural Festival, having recognised that such events have preserved the state‘s cultural heritage and showed its uniqueness to the world.

Governor Mohammed told the crowd at Karai Karai Annual Cultural Festival held in Jalam in Dambam local government area of Bauchi yesterday that, „It may interest you to know that our administration is committed to investing in initiatives that promote cultural education and awareness. We believe that by imparting the knowledge and appreciation of our cultural heritage to our younger generation, we can ensure its continuity and preservation for generations to come.’’

Represented by his deputy, Auwal Mohammed Jatau, the governor said the festival provided the people the opportunity to celebrate their diverse traditions, foster unity and strengthen bonds in the society while serving as powerful reminders of shared history and provide a platform for exchange of knowledge, ideas and experiences.

He said, “These celebrations are not merely colorful, but they hold the key to preserving our identity and heritage for future generations.”

Bala recalled that Bala Baraa Ma Jalam Cultural festival has been in existence for many years, and has continued to be a significant cultural activity that attracts tourists and locals, with the festival named after two famous hunters from the area, Bala Baraa and Jalam, who were known for their bravery and hunting skills.

The state commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Hon. Ahmad Aliyu Jalam, said the festival aims to preserve and promote the cultural heritage.

He added that the Bala Baraa Ma Jalam cultural festival had become a significant event that has put Bauchi State on the map, attracting visitors from all over Nigeria and beyond.

„As we are aware, every year, the good people of Dambam local government area come together to celebrate the Bala Baraa ma Jalam Cultural Festival. This two-day festival is a time for local residents to enjoy traditional cultural activities, such as drumming, singing, dancing, and storytelling.

„The Bala Baraa Ma Jalam Cultural Festival is a highly celebrated cultural event that takes place annually in this area,“ he said.
