Governor Inuwa Swears in Council Chairmen, Reaffirms Commitment To Grassroots Development

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has sworn in the newly elected Chairmen of the state’s 11 Local Government Councils and 13 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), charging them to serve with integrity, transparency and the fear of God.

The inauguration, held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Gombe, followed the June 27 local government elections conducted by the Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission (GOSIEC), in which candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won all 24 chairmanship and 240 councillorship seats across the state.

Addressing the council chairmen, the governor described the elections as peaceful, transparent and credible, saying the outcome reflects the confidence of the people in the APC and its development-driven leadership.

He emphasized that local governments remain the foundation of democratic governance and play a critical role in delivering essential services, promoting community participation and enhancing security at the grassroots.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the Local Council Development Areas reform, describing it as one of the most transformative governance initiatives in the state’s history.

“The LCDA reform is here to stay. It remains one of the most transformative governance initiatives in the history of Gombe State and will stand as a lasting legacy of our commitment to strengthening grassroots administration,” he declared.

The governor noted that through prudent financial management and the establishment of the Joint Projects Development Agency (JPDA), local governments in the state have become financially stable and are now better positioned to deliver meaningful development to their people.

He urged the newly inaugurated chairpersons to be responsive, accountable and people-oriented.

“I urge you to discharge your responsibilities with dedication, humility, integrity, transparency and, above all, the fear of God. Let every decision you make reflect the collective interest of the people rather than personal considerations,” he said.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya also called on the chairpersons to consolidate on the achievements recorded at the grassroots and ensure that the dividends of democracy reach every community across the state.

Earlier, the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, described the inauguration as another milestone in the administration’s efforts to deepen democracy and bring governance closer to the people.

Speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated chairpersons, the Chairman of Gombe Local Government Area, Professor Abdullahi Bappah Garkuwa, thanked Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his visionary leadership and pledged that the council chairmen would justify the confidence reposed in them through dedicated service to the people of Gombe State.

…Presents Operational Vehicles To LCDA Chairpersons To Facilitate Smooth Take-off

As part of his administration’s commitment to strengthening grassroots governance, Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, presented 13 brand-new Toyota Hilux operational vehicles to the newly inaugurated Chairpersons of the Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) to ensure a seamless take-off of the councils and enhance effective service delivery across the state.

The presentation took place shortly after the swearing-in ceremony at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Gombe, following the successful June 27 local government elections conducted by the Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission (GOSIEC).

Governor Inuwa Yahaya, said at the occasion, that the establishment of the LCDAs was a deliberate and strategic reform designed to bring government closer to the people, deepen grassroots administration, improve access to public services and accelerate development in communities across Gombe State.
