Cross River State governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, yesterday, suspended the Cross River State House of Assembly Commission.
Otu gave the order in a letter signed by the secretary to the state government (SSG), Prof. Anthony Owan Enoh and sent to the leadership of the Assembly.
The governor in a letter dated March 18, 2024, and read on the floor of the House by the speaker, Hon. Elvert Ayambem, yesterday, said the suspension became necessary following the commission’s failure to reveal the correct seniority order and the staff that was eligible to occupy the position of clerk of the Assembly.
“The unfortunate outcome was His Excellency, the Governor’s misguided selection of Mr. Patrick Edi over
Mrs. Catherine Ubi and the ripple effect this has caused,” the letter reads.
Recall that the speaker had last week in an interview with some journalists suggested the suspension of the state Assembly commission following the blunder committed by the assembly commission whereby it misguided the state governor in the appointment of the Assembly’s clerk.
The speaker in the said interview with journalists called for the immediate sack of Assembly Commission for misleading the state governor.
In the said interview, the speaker said, “Because if you can look straight into the governor’s eyes and tell him lies, you are not fit to be there,” Ayambem said.
