An advocacy group, the Arewa Renaissance Group, has raised alarm over what it described as a coordinated conspiracy in the ongoing case involving former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki.
The group on Thursday petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, urging him to immediately order the takeover of the case by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), citing concerns over bias, misconduct, and alleged defiance of the IGP’s prior directive.
The case, which involves allegations made by a woman who claims to be pregnant for the former minister, has sparked controversy following a DNA test reportedly conducted without Turaki’s consent.
Coordinator of the group, Abba Usman, described the DNA process as a “kangaroo test,” insisting it was carried out unethically and in breach of standard investigative procedures.
“We are deeply concerned that the main accused was not informed nor gave consent before the test was carried out and results made public. This is not only ethically wrong but a clear sign of bias,” Usman stated.
According to him, the group suspects a setup aimed at blackmailing the former minister, whom he described as “a man of known integrity and public service.”
“The investigating officers have shown open bias from the onset. Intelligence gathered by our group suggests this is a well-planned attempt to exploit the personality of the man involved,” Usman alleged.
“This level of insubordination and compromise cannot be overlooked. We are calling on the IGP to act swiftly and ensure justice is not only done but seen to be done,” the statement read.
