The National Youth Wing of Boi Progressive Association (BPA) in Bogoro LGA has reaffirmed its support for the decision of the Boi Council of Elders to remain under the Bauchi Emirate, rejecting inclusion in the newly created Sayawa Chiefdom.
The Bauchi Government last year approved the creation of Sayawa Chiefdom to accommodate the Zaar Sayawa people. The proposal provides for the siting of the headquarters of Sayawa Chiefdom in Tafawa Balewa town.
However, widespread rejection accompanied the siting of Sayawa Chiefdom headquarters in Tafawa Balewa town. For instance, natives of ancient Tafawa Balewa were displaced by several waves of ethno-religious conflicts in Tafawa Balewa town.
Speaking to our correspondent in Bauchi, the group’s secretary, Comrade Kalanyanta Kevin, emphasised that the decision of Boi elders aligns with the historical and cultural identity of the Ayaa people with the Bauchi emirate.
He said the youth wing fully endorsed the declaration made by the Boi Council of Elders, which affirmed the community’s continued affiliation with the Bauchi Emirate.
“The decision reflects the community’s long-standing relationship with the Bauchi Emirate, dating back to 1820 when the traditional leadership of the Ayaa people was first established as a Hamlet Head under Yakubun Bauchi,” he said.
