The Democracy Watch Initiative (DWI) has criticised a petition submitted by former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN) calling it unfounded and potentially disruptive to the state’s peace and stability.

In a statement issued by its Director of Strategic Communication, Dr. Tunji Bamidele, the DWI dismissed Malami’s allegations that Governor Nasir Idris and other All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders were conspiring to import thugs and illegal arms into Kebbi State. The group described the claims as baseless and urged citizens to remain calm while rejecting efforts to incite unrest in a state known for its tranquility.

“Malami’s allegations lack evidence and appear designed to create unnecessary tension among the people of Kebbi,” Bamidele said, “Such claims risk undermining the peace and communal harmony that Kebbi has long enjoyed.”

The DWI also referenced a condolence visit by Malami to Birnin Kebbi, during which they alleged tensions escalated, leading to an attack on the APC state secretariat. The group expressed concern that such incidents could disrupt the state’s political stability and economic progress.

The organisation called on security agencies and the National Assembly to investigate the matter thoroughly and ensure that Kebbi remains a peaceful environment for all residents. “The people of Kebbi deserve leadership that prioritizes unity, stability, and the rule of law,” Bamidele added. “We stand with the citizens and lawmakers of Kebbi in advocating for a political climate free from division and intimidation.”

The DWI emphasised its commitment to promoting justice, accountability, and a violence-free political landscape in Kebbi State, urging all stakeholders to work toward maintaining the state’s peaceful legacy.
