The Abia chapter of the Obidient Movement has advised Gov. Alex Otti to remain steadfast, focused and continue to deliver on his mandate, and not get distracted by the activities of the opposition.

The Spokesman for the group, Dr Chibuzor Obiesili, gave the advice at a news briefing in Umuahia on Wednesday.

Solomon, who was flanked by the Lead/National Advisory Committee member, Prince Solomon, and other officers of the group, acknowledged that Otti’s administration had so far been outstanding in its developmental efforts.

He said that the briefing became necessary, following “the growing wave of political distractions and orchestrated attacks on the governor” by some chieftains of the opposition parties in the state.

He said that the governor “has proved that Abia can be better through his people-oriented projects, for which the people elected him”.

“We have not forgotten the sorry state of Abia, which the past administrations kept it,” he said.

According to him, the former leaders “governed Abia heartlessly,” amidst alleged cases of looted treasury.

The group claimed to have played a “critical role” in mobilising support for the change in Abia in the 2023 Governorship Election.

It, therefore, argued that because of its role, it “cannot keep quiet in the face of the desire by the failed individuals to stage a come back”.

It promised to sustain its support for Otti because of his people-oriented programmes, even though it accused him of failing to integrate members of the movement in his administration.

The group reacted to the recent gathering of former Abia governors, including Orji Kalu, Theodore Orji, and Okezie Ikpeazu, where they reportedly resolved to remove Otti in 2027.

The group called on well-meaning Abia people not to succumb to the antics of “sychophants” pursuing their personal gains.

It challenged the former political leaders behind the plot to “make Otti a one-term governor” to realise that “Abia people are enlightened, vigilant and fully aware of the difference between them and Otti”.

“We call on the people, civil society groups and media to reject any blackmail against the governor,” it said.

Meanwhile, the group also called on Otti to join Mr Peter Obi and other prominent Nigerian politicians in the African Democratic Congress, ahead of 2027, to guarantee an undivided, block vote for his victory. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
