Gunmen Kill 3rd Class Chief…As Taraba Set For Nwonyo Fishing Festival

Few hours to the hosting of Nwonyo Fishing and Cultural Festival organised by the Taraba State government in Ibi local government area of the state, unknown gunmen have killed a third-class chief of Sensani in Gasol local government area of the state, Chief Abdulmutalib Nuhu.

Ibi is the home town of Hamisu Bala popularly known as Wandume, the popular convicted gun runner who was released from prison few days ago.

The gunmen stormed Sensani village about 9pm on Thursday, head straight to the palace and killed the third-class chief. The village is few kilometres to Ibi, along River Benue, venue of the festival.

Government has however assured the people traveling for the event of adequate security during the activities at the festival.

Speaking with our correspondent, the chief’s elder brother, Nuhu Salihu Sanseni said the gunmen came on motorcycles with guns, killed his brother and left with his phones.

“They came to the area at about 9pm last night. They went straight to his palace, shot and killed him and snatched his two phones. While they were going, they met with a young man who was coming on a motorcycle, they also shot and broke his leg before leaving the village,” Sansani stated.

Though a senior police officer who is serving within Sansani revealed to LEADERSHIP Weekend that his men were already trailing the killers of Nuhu, the acting police public relations officer (PPRO), Taraba State command, ASP James Lashen, when contacted, said he was on his way to the office as at the time of this report.

 

“I am not aware. I am on my way to the Office now. if I receive any situation report, I will inform you,” Lashen stated.
