Sources told LEADERSHIP that the three armed robbers had invaded the Point of Sales (PoS) business premises of the retired policeman but met resistance around the Chisco Transport Company office on Egbu road, Owerri.

According to the source, who pleaded anonymity, the gunmen arrived in a car and demanded for money.

However, when the gunmen met resistance, they shot Owobo at a close range on his forehead, while Mrs Owobo was shot on the chest but was pronounced dead at the Federal University Teaching Hospital Owerri (FUTHO) where she was rushed to for medical attention.

Already, the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, has confirmed the murder of the couple and disclosed that the Police in the state were on the trail of the fleeing suspects.
