Gunmen Kill Two Policemen, Passer-by In Imo

Fleeing gunmen on Monday killed two policemen and a passer-by at Ahiara junction in the Ahiara Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.

This is even as the State Commissioner of Police, Danjuma Aboki, and the Commander of 34 Artillery Brigade and Joint Task Force (JTF) have begun a manhunt for the fleeing suspects.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the gunmen, while in a vehicle, opened fire on the two policemen who were in uniform at the Ahiara junction while a stray bullet hit a male passer-by who died on the spot.

The source said, “Two policemen were killed now at Ahiara junction. On arrival, the gunmen opened fire at the direction of the policemen and killed two on the spot. A stray bullet also hit a young man and he died on the spot”.

The police commissioner was within Mbaise for a morale boosting visit to his officers when the incident occurred.

Police spokesperson for Imo State, Henry Okoye, said already the Police boss had declared a manhunt for the fleeing gunmen.

He said, “The Commissioner of Police Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, the Commander 34 Artillery Brigade and Joint Task Force (JTF) operatives are combing the scene of crime for evidence that will possibly lead to the arrest of hoodlums responsible for the attack and killing of two Policemen at Ahaira Junction, in Ahiazu Mbaise LGA of Imo State.”

Just last Sunday, the mutilated body of the kidnapped traditional ruler of Otulu autonomous community, Eze Joe-Benz Ochulor, was discovered along the Chokoneze-Mbutu road in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area.

Last Thursday, gunmen had invaded the home of the ward chairman of the People Democratic Party in the Ife/ Akpodim/ Chokoneze ward in the Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of the state, Hon Chiedoziem Anyanwu, and assassinated him in the presence of his wife.
