Arsenal’s new striker, Viktor Gyokeres, has broken the club’s shirt sales record, according to The Athletic.
Gyokeres was officially unveiled by the Gunners last Saturday. While final figures from retailers are still being compiled, early indicators confirm that demand for his No. 14 shirt has surpassed that of any Arsenal player in recent memory. This means the 27-year-old has eclipsed the likes of Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice and Martin Ødegaard.
Arsenal will pay an initial fee of €63.5 million for Gyokeres, who has now joined the squad on their pre-season tour of Asia. He was also unveiled to supporters at the Singapore National Stadium ahead of the friendly against Newcastle, receiving a thunderous welcome from the crowd.
His shirt number has added to the buzz; although his preferred No. 9 is occupied by Gabriel Jesus, Gyokeres has chosen the iconic No. 14, famously worn by club legend and all-time top scorer Thierry Henry.
