Nigerian singer and songwriter, Temilade Openiyi, popularly called Tems, clinched the prestigious ‘Best Recording of the Year’ award for her emotive track “Burning” at the 17th edition of The Headies Awards held at the Eko Convention Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos on Sunday night.

Tems’ “Burning” stood out in a competitive category that included notable tracks such as “Different Pattern” by Seyi Vibez, “Higher” by Burna Boy, “Last Heartbreak Song” by Ayra Starr featuring Giveon, and “Billions” by Sarz featuring Lojay.

The Headies Awards, renowned for celebrating excellence in the Nigerian music industry, returned to Nigeria this year after two consecutive editions in Atlanta, Georgia.

The 2025 ceremony featured 31 categories, including ‘Artiste of the Year,’ ‘Song of the Year,’ and ‘Next Rated,’ highlighting the diversity and talent within the industry.

Tems’ victory in the ‘Best Recording of the Year emphasises her continued impact on the music scene, following her Grammy win earlier this year for ‘Best African Music Performance’.
