Chelsea ended their four-match wait for a win in dominant fashion, beating Bournemouth 5-1 as Jordan Henderson scored his first two goals for the club on his home debut.
The 36-year-old midfielder took only 68 seconds to open the scoring. Cole Palmer, who had signed a contract extension until 2034 just hours before kick-off, slipped a pass through for Henderson, who curled a finish in off the inside of the post with Chelsea’s first shot of the game.
Chelsea doubled their lead 84 seconds later. Henderson turned provider, releasing Morgan Rogers, whose cross-shot was flicked over Bournemouth goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic by defender Antonio Silva. Rogers was credited with his fourth goal of the season after a VAR review.
Bournemouth, still without a Premier League win under new manager Marco Rose, had chances to respond. Rayan lifted a shot over, Henderson sent a lofted effort from the edge of the box, and Rayan was denied in a one-on-one by Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
Martinez also saved from Ryan Christie, while a Silva header was kept out shortly before half-time.
The visitors brought on Ben Gannon-Doak at the break, but within 30 seconds they were 3-0 down. Joao Pedro fired into the top right corner after Pedro Neto reacted quickly to another Silva mistake inside the box.
Evanilson briefly gave Bournemouth hope by pulling one back five minutes later, making it 3-1. A dangerous corner fell to him in the six-yard box, and Moises Caicedo’s clearance ricocheted off him into the net.
But Chelsea restored their three-goal cushion moments later when Joao Pedro tapped in a Pep Chavarria cross. Henderson then completed the scoring with a 25-yard free-kick that curled past Petrovic.
The victory lifts Chelsea into the top five. Bournemouth remain winless under Rose and sit only outside the relegation zone on goal difference.
