The Arewa Concerned Citizens Forum (ACCF), a coalition of advocacy groups in the North, has commended the Chief of Defence Staffed, General Christopher Musa, for rejecting calls to topple President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and defending democracy in the wake of the #EndBadGobernance protest.
In a joint statement by Mal Ibrahim Kolo, Hajiya Jumai Funtua, Moses Enenche, and Bobai Victor, the coalition expressed solidarity with General Musa for preventing an insurrection attempt to topple President Tinubu.
In recent days, some hunger protesters have been waving Russian flags in Kano and other northern states, calling on the military to topple President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Though they have been accused of treason and face trial, the protesters called on foreign nations to intervene.
The statement emphasised the need to defend Nigeria’s sovereignty and warned against undermining the state by flying foreign flags or chanting war songs in the country.
The ACCF commended General Musa for his stance, stating that “the military will not accept any attempt to topple the democratically elected government”.
They also appreciated the President’s efforts to address the nation’s security challenges and his commitment to democracy.
The coalition emphasised that Nigeria has had enough crises recently, including Boko Haram, banditry, and Biafra, and called for a united front to defend national sovereignty with the President and the service chiefs.
“They warned against hired crowds being used to perpetuate evil in the land and emphasised that those pushing for more conflict are politicians who lost out in the 2023 Presidential election and are cowards,” it said.
The ACCF also condemned the hoisting of Russian flags in some Nigerian towns, calling it a treasonable offence.
They supported General Musa’s warning that those behind such actions would face the wrath of the law. They emphasised that Nigeria is a sovereign nation that will not accept any foreign interference.
The group reiterated its support for General Musa and the Nigerian military in their efforts to defend the nation’s sovereignty and maintain peace and tranquillity. They further urged all Nigerians to stand together to defend democracy and national unity.
